SOSNA STANDS WITH OUR ASIAN AMERICAN & PACIFIC ISLANDER (AAPI) COMMUNITY

In light of the surge in hate crimes targeting Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities across the country, SOSNA stands against anti-Asian racism and violence.

Since the start of the pandemic a little over one year ago, Stop AAPI Hate reported nearly 3,800 incidents of hate crimes, 68% of which affecting women, compared to last year’s count of 2,800 incidents. Of the incidents documented, 68% were verbal harassment, 21% were shunning and 11% were physical assaults. Most of the incidents occurred at a business or on public streets.

It’s all of our responsibility to condemn hate and support our AAPI neighbors, coworkers, family members, businesses and friends particularly on a neighborhood level and in the public spaces we share.

To our Asian friends, family, relatives and neighbors: we hope you take time to rest and be with the ones you love. We mourn with you for the lives lost and impacted by these traumatizing, terrifying events. We’re here to advocate for you and with you.
