The South of South Neighborhood Association (SOSNA) is a neighborhood civic association established to improve the quality of life and serve as a resource for residents and businesses by actively encouraging and promoting neighborhood activities and civic involvement in the area bounded by the south side of South Street to the north side of Washington Avenue and the west side of Broad Street to the Schuylkill River. Through its Scholarship Program, SOSNA seeks to award a college scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to one neighborhood high school senior each year.
Live within the SOSNA neighborhood boundaries (South Street to Washington Ave; Broad to Schuylkill River)
Be in final year of Philadelphia public or charter high school or in the first three years of college
Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
Plan to attend an accredited 2- or 4-year college in the fall of 2022
Completed SOSNA Scholarship application.
Completed essay (must be at least 500 words) on one of the following topics:
How have you contributed to the Graduate Hospital/SWCC neighborhood?
How do you intend to contribute to the Graduate Hospital/SWCC neighborhood after graduation?
Copy of your high school transcript (or college transcript to date if already enrolled)
Deadline to submit application and required documents is EXTENDED DEADLINE TO Friday, July 31, 2021
Please submit your completed application to firstname.lastname@example.org with “SOSNA Scholarship Application” in the subject line or drop off at SOSNA’s office at 1901 Washington Ave, Office B, Philadelphia PA 19146 (mailbox is on 19th Street near metal steps)
After the applications are submitted, finalists will be asked to meet with the SOSNA Scholarship Selection Committee for an interview and provide a copy of their college acceptance letter.
The winner of the Scholarship will be announced by August 15, 2021.
