It’s party time!
Summer is here and that means it’s time for block parties and Playstreets! Block parties and Playstreets are a chance to close your street to meet your neighbors and have fun in a safe environment. For the first time ever, SOSNA is offering block party street closure supplies on a first-come, first-serve basis.
What are block parties?
Block parties allow you to block off traffic on your street for a party on a weekend or a summer holiday, Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day. You can apply online here. You’ll need to submit a petition with signatures of at least 75% of residents on your block. Use this form to collect signatures.
What are Playstreets?
Neighbors wishing to have their block participate in Philadelphia's Playstreets program now have until June 5 to express interest.
The Parks and Recreation Department is enhancing and expanding the more than 50-year-old summer program, which closes designated streets to provide children a safe play space.
The program provides play equipment, supplies, and meals. Each Playstreet is designated to children from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
To be considered for Playstreets, your block must:
• Take part in the summer food program
• Have a block resident volunteer to be a Playstreet supervisor.
• Be a small, one-way street (no numbered streets in our neighborhood are eligible)
• Have less than 25 percent of residents submit an objection to the creation of the Playstreet.
How can SOSNA help?
If you are hosting a block party or Playstreet, SOSNA has a limited number of street closure blockades and cones for your convenience. You must have a permit on hand to apply and be able to pick up and return the supplies to the SOSNA office at 1901B Washington Avenue.
