First, thank you to all who attended the 2301 Washington Avenue ZBA hearing yesterday.  A decision will be rendered after 30 days - we'll of course keep you posted, and feel free to email if you have any questions about the application.

Second, this month's zoning meeting has a new addition to the agenda - the proposed PHA development at 1003-1011 S. 20th Street.  See item #2 below for details.

Dear neighbors:

Tomorrow is the conclusion of the 2301 Washington Avenue Zoning Board of Adjustment Special Hearing.  This hearing was begun on May 13, 2009 but was not concluded.  It was postponed in both July and November, but tomorrow's hearing is officially a go. 

The meeting specifics are as follows:

WHEN:      Wednesday, December 9th
TIME:         1:00 PM (hopefully done by 2:00 PM)
PLACE:     1515 Arch Street, 18th Floor

A happy belated Thanksgiving to all!  Before getting to some important zoning/development news, SOSNA would like to thank all who helped the November 21st TreeVitalize tree plantings exceedingly successful.  We all owe the dedicated group of volunteers who coordinated these efforts, and those who got down and dirty to get these trees in the ground a big thank you for helping to beautify our community.  Check the SOSNA website in the coming days for pictures.

A quick note before we get to the agenda for this month:

The SOSNA Office will be closed starting November 19th, and reopening on Monday, November 30th.  If you need to pick up a recycling bin, or sign up for a holiday turkey, please stop by before the 19th.  Additional turkey sign ups will be taken at the St. Charles Senior Center, 1941 Christian Street, while the office is closed.

Tomorrow night will be the November SOSNA General Membership Meeting, hosted by the SOSNA Safety Committee.  For those of you new to the neighborhood or who are just getting involved in the organization, SOSNA holds General Membership meetings on the second wednesday of every month at the St. Charles Senior Center.  Each meeting normally centers around a specific topic - this month the topic is SAFETY - and features key speakers from around the community - either non-profit leaders, municipal players and politicians.

Just a quick reminder to join us at the SOSNA office tomorrow from 7-8 to talk about pedestrian safety issues in our community.  It will be an informal discussion that will lay the groundwork for some exciting opportunities to affect real and tangible change in the community.

Dear Neighbors:

First, a big thank you to everyone who helped and attended the first annual Bloktoberfest last Saturday.  The intermittent rain did nothing to dampen the mood - it was a rousing success, and with all the kegs running dry by the day's end will provide a good chunk of change to help repair Shiloh Baptist Church.  A check will be presented to the pastors at the SOSNA General Membership meeting, November 11th.

Dear neighbors:

The Jamaican Jerk Hut has withdrawn its application from tonight's zoning meeting and therefore will NOT be on the agenda.  They hope to resubmit and appear before neighbors sometime in the near future.

In other news - hope you're all planning on coming to BLOKTOBERFEST (www.bloktoberfestphilly.com).  Still looking for a couple more volunteers and artists . . . .
